PLOWED began to congregate in 1998. PLOWED is a private group of acquaintances who share an interest in whisky and have become friends over time. We usually have weekly Zoom meetings, but congregate annually in discreet locations. Sometimes, it is referred to as Dick Cheney's Bunker, among other references. We drink, cook eat, chat, play music, but usually drink. All of us have learned to collect and secured obscure whisky over the years with a plan to bring at least six to eight bottles to the events. A few of us work in the industry, but it is a diverse group in age and profession. Most have been to Scotland among other areas where distilleries and whisky are more plentiful to experience and understand the water of life, so we can congregate for a week to annually drink and share knowledge.
PLOWED began to congregate in 1998. It is an amalgam of several older whisky groups, and fellow travelers, from the East, West, and Midwest. Earlier members used to communicate on the now retired Whisky Magazine Website,Homer Gordons Chat site, and Stillroom. Some were members of MASS. To become a member of PLOWED, you should indicate interest online, become active on Whiskybase.com, among other whisky group websites like the Malt Maniacs, Adventures Club Bourbon Society, or the New England Barrel Society. If you ask around, you may eventually and hopefully find a Ringleader who may reveal themselves so that you can participate in weekly Zoom meetings. We expect potential members to drink responsibly and respect all members. There are no membership applications. Membership is by general consensus and by executed invitation. Pleasant persistence is a virtue, since you will need to meet enough members; some have waited more than ten years; others much less. Some may never be asked and a few never return. The amount of whisky that you own helps, but is not an exclusive ground for disqualification, but you must be able to bring enough quality bottles to the annual event. The annual event lasts about a week, so some cannot easily make the commitment. Membership becomes official after being offered an invitation, accepting, and attending what is known as Ardbeggedon.
PLOWED offers a variety of opportunities to share notes on whisky, where to find it, how to find affordable high value expressions, then open them to share with others.
